"She Dreams of Flying"
Again, I studied the shape of the stone for inspiration. Seeing that it could be a Swan, I did not want to sculpt "JUST A SWAN". Any stone sculptor can produce a Swan. To make it different and more interesting, I wanted to create a story. With the main Sculpture as a Swan, I chose to add a female figure with covered breast's (so it could be displayed in public without controversy) with a sweet and calm face with outreached wings, closed eyes, while slowly, peacefully drifting along while dreaming what it would be like IF she could fly?
Sculpting the feathered wings was delightful. I was pleased with the flowing design of the feathers. Her hair resembles sea kelp. The several added textures in the stone with the polished face adds to the dimensional interest of this piece.
